Understanding users, their environment and their product needs is an ideal first step in any quality product development process. At Limina, we use a variety of techniques designed to expose your users' needs - building a clear and concise vocabulary around their work goals, use habits, and environment.
The analysis begins with contextual interviews with users in their "natural" environment to allow for an accurate representation of their day-to-day interaction with your product, or in some cases, a competitor's. This methodology reveals subtle use patterns that users themselves may not be aware of.
We analyze the contextual interview to define user archetypes (or personas). These personas and their User scenarios are iconic representations of your target user audience and serve as instrumental design references throughout the product development lifecycle. Personas are a fast growing industry standard for defining, evaluating, and marketing systems.
We overlay the personas and scenarios with standard use cases to bring further structure and clarity to product User, environment and interface requirements. These user interface requirements detail specific interface features and functionality that feed the overall product design.
In this exploratory phase we conduct heuristic evaluations and collaborate on prototypes. Heuristic evaluations allow for a professional usability review of your product and give you an actionable list of items that can shape your current or future design goals. The prototypes can be developed at all levels of fidelity and be used to evaluate a concept or gain consensus around product objectives.
